The Power of God on Display

After the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus the apostles continued the works of God as Jesus instructed them.

John 14:11-12 MEV

Believe Me that I am in the Father, and the Father is in Me. Or else believe Me on account of the works themselves. 12 Truly, truly I say to you, he who believes in Me will do the works that I do also. And he will do greater works than these, because I am going to My Father.

The Power of God was obvious in them, as was His Love. People from all over were drawn to the light of Jesus that shown through these believers.

Acts 3:1-9 MEV

Now Peter and John went up together to the temple at the ninth hour, the hour of prayer. 2 A man lame from birth was being carried, whom people placed daily at the gate of the temple called Beautiful to ask alms from those who entered the temple. 3 Seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, he asked for alms. 4 Peter, gazing at him with John, said, “Look at us.” 5 So he paid attention to them, expecting to receive something from them. 6 Then Peter said, “I have no silver and gold, but I give you what I have. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.” 7 He took him by the right hand and raised him up. Immediately his feet and ankles were strengthened. 8 Jumping up, he stood and walked and entered the temple with them, walking and jumping and praising God. 9 All the people saw him walking and praising God.

Acts 5:12-16 MEV

Many signs and wonders were performed among the people by the hands of the apostles. And they were all together in Solomon’s Porch. 13 No one else dared join them, but the people respected them. 14 Believers were increasingly added to the Lord, crowds of both men and women, 15 so that they even brought the sick out into the streets and placed them on beds and mats, that at least the shadow of Peter passing by might touch some of them. 16 Crowds also came out of the cities surrounding Jerusalem, bringing the sick and those who were afflicted by evil spirits, and they were all healed.

Acts 8:4-8 MEV

Therefore those who were scattered went everywhere preaching the word. 5 Philip went down to the city of Samaria and preached Christ to them. 6 When the crowds heard Philip and saw the miracles which he did, they listened in unity to what he said. 7 For unclean spirits, crying with a loud voice, came out of many who were possessed. And many who were paralyzed or lame were healed. 8 So there was much joy in that city.

Acts 19:11-12 MEV

God worked powerful miracles by the hands of Paul. 12 So handkerchiefs or aprons he had touched were brought to the sick, and the diseases left them, and the evil spirits went out of them.

I show you this in order to challenge you. Believers are not supposed to be powerless but filled with the Word of God, with wisdom and understanding, full of the knowledge of God…

Ephesians 3:19 MEV and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

…full of power.

Jesus said the world would hate us and to know that it first hated Him. He also said be of good cheer for I have overcome the world. We have the power of God and the measure of His faith, we have the love of God and the authority of Jesus Christ to use every power, every gift, every promise to advance the Word of God throughout the entire world. He would that not one would be lost. That’s His will. Ours is to know and do the Word, the works, the things of God. Ours is to be full sons and daughters and we don’t get there by giving it one day a week. We get there by giving the Father each of our days, by developing that intimate relationship with Him, that Father-Daughter/Father-Son relationship. We love Him because He first loved us.
