Jesus Part 1

Who is Jesus?

Jesus is the Word, the second part of the trinity or triune God.

John 1:1-5 NKJV

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. 4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.

Shepherd

Matthew 2:6 NKJV

‘But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, Are not the least among the rulers of Judah; For out of you shall come a Ruler Who will shepherd My people Israel.’ ”

Matthew 25:32 NKJV All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats.

John 10:4-5,11,14-16 NKJV

4 And when he brings out his own sheep, he goes before them; and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice. 5 Yet they will by no means follow a stranger, but will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers.”

11 “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep.

14 I am the good shepherd; and I know My sheep, and am known by My own. 15 As the Father knows Me, even so I know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep. 16 And other sheep I have which are not of this fold; them also I must bring, and they will hear My voice; and there will be one flock and one shepherd.

Savior

When man couldn’t stay focused on God in this world, when sin and death reigned in them through the fall of Adam, Jesus came into the earth to correct Adam’s error so that we would not be totally and utterly lost to Father God.

In order to do this, Jesus had to put aside the powers and abilities of His God nature.

This isn’t like the movies, where the god man hides his abilities and when he is angry or has to save someone, they come out.

Jesus, the Word, put it away from Himself. He had to because Adam was man only and in order to correct Adam’s betrayal, Jesus had to come into the earth as man.

Romans 5:6-11,19 NKJV

6 For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. 7 For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. 8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him. 10 For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. 11 And not only that, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation.

19 For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man’s obedience many will be made righteous.

Jesus is God’s gift, not only to Israel, His chosen people, but also to any in the world who will receive Him as the resurrected Savior.

John 3:16 NKJV For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

Romans 10:8-13 NKJV

8 But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith which we preach): 9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.” 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. 13 For “whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved.”

Soteria: (G4991) deliverance, preservation, safety, salvation.

Jesus is not just a prophet. He is the Messiah, the Christ, the Savior.

Don’t let religion reduce Him to the level of a prophet only. Religion may also try to mislead you into believing He walked the earth as God with all His powers and abilities, but He did not, He walked as man, as a model for you and I.

Man

Virgin birth – Matthew 1:23 NKJV “Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.”

At the age of 12 He was “about His Father’s business.”

Luke 2:49 NKJV And He said to them, “Why did you seek Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father’s business?”

At the Jordan, Jesus was baptized in water and by the Holy Spirit

Matthew 3:16 NKJV When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him.

At the Wedding Feast He performed His first miracle.

John 2:9-11 NKJV

9 When the master of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and did not know where it came from (but the servants who had drawn the water knew), the master of the feast called the bridegroom. 10 And he said to him, “Every man at the beginning sets out the good wine, and when the guests have well drunk, then the inferior. You have kept the good wine until now!” 11 This beginning of signs Jesus did in Cana of Galilee, and manifested His glory; and His disciples believed in Him.

Jesus performed many miracles and gave us a lot of teaching, then said we are able to do these things also.

John 14:12 NKJV “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.

Conqueror

Jesus did the some things for us that we could not do, He hung all that we deserve, iniquity, chastisement, everything under the curse, on the cross. He also defeated Satan and took the keys of Hades and of death.

Romans 8:2 NKJV For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.

Colossians 2:11-15 NKJV

11 In Him you were also circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the sins of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, 12 buried with Him in baptism, in which you also were raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead. 13 And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, 14 having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. 15 Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.

Revelation 1:17-18 NKJV

17 And when I saw Him, I fell at His feet as dead. But He laid His right hand on me, saying to me, “Do not be afraid; I am the First and the Last. 18 I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. Amen. And I have the keys of Hades and of Death.

And that’s only a small part of who He is.
